The IR frontal analyses are performed at the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVO) using satellite IR imagery in the form of high resolution MCSST data. In cloudy regions the frontal analyses are not updated but given a smaller confidence value. The frontal positions plotted are all the available data not considering the age or confidence value. The comparisons are made to illustrate the value added of having SSH from the model with assimilation of satellite altimeter data, in addition to the MCSST data. The frontal analyses are an independent product from HYCOM.
