Plots of operational global NCOM changed from version glb8_2f to version glb8_3b on 1 June 2008. The upgrade from glb8_2f to glb8_3b included addition of MLD-modified synthetics for assimilation, profile assimilation via NCODA, coupling with the CICE 3.0 ice model, and use of NCOM version 4.0
This site contains real-time nowcast results from the 1/8° global version of the Navy Coastal Ocean Model, including snap shots and animations for many zoom regions, mainly Sea Surface Height (SSH), Sea Surface Temperature (SST) and Sea Surface Salinity (SSS). In addition, this site contains links to the 1/16° global NRL Layered Ocean Model (NLOM) and the 1/8° global Modular Ocean Data Assimilation System (MODAS), again with SSH and SST snapshots and animations for many zoom regions, plus a link to the Real-time Ocean Environment page that includes plots of the real-time altimeter data available.
The 1/8° global NCOM is run daily at the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) with atmospheric forcing from the Navy Operational Global Atmospheric Prediction System (NOGAPS) and assimiltion of SST and synthetic temperature and salinity profiles via the MODAS climatology based on input from the operational 1/16° NLOM SSH and 1/8° MODAS 2D SST nowcasts. This web page is updated daily by NRL and should be considered a demonstration product. We do not guarantee availability, service, or timely delivery of data.
